A bit more about me
"For there is always light, if only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it."
– Amanda Gorman
Born and raised in northwest Virginia, I moved to Seattle in 2005 to attend The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. I completed my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and opened my private therapy practice in 2009. I practice primarily from a psychodynamic, relational approach.
During graduate school, I completed an internship at Sound Mental Health, counseling children and adolescents. Prior to graduate school, I worked for five years as a caseworker and Asia Program Director for an international adoption agency in northern Virginia. My work there encompassed both family intervention and crisis management.
I studied at Mary Baldwin University in Virginia for my undergraduate degree, graduating with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Leadership Studies. During my time in college, I was privileged to be a part of the Virginia Women's Institute of Leadership (VWIL). I credit my time in VWIL for amazing and unforgettable experiences, lasting friendships and for sparking my interest in the varied and complex issues women face in our world today.
A few fun facts…
I am a twin. This always surprises people, but yes I have a fraternal, twin brother. I love dogs, especially my current pup, Lucy. I love to travel and I love the ocean. Mostly, I love to travel to the ocean:) I am an abysmal surfer. Like REALLY bad. But I love it and try to get in the waves any chance I get. I consider it a lesson in humility!
I am a semi-serious athlete. I very much enjoy the outdoors and challenging myself, but I will also take long breaks as well. I also have an intense dislike for whipped cream and November is one of my most favorite months of the year because I love and I mean LOVE Thanksgiving. I am a really good baker, but a terrible cook. I love it when spaces look and feel good. Creating a cozy space is a love of mine. Also planting flowers.
That’s a bit about me. I am looking forward to getting to know more about you!
A bit about Lucy…
If you are able to come and see me in person, you might meet my favorite four-legged friend Lucy.
Lucy is a mini golden doodle and was rescued after her initial owners treated her badly. Her first year of life was rough, but she has been with our family for almost two years now and I am glad to say that her life is much better.
She is the happiest dog and loves people. While not an “official” therapy dog, Lucy often comes with me to work and is well loved by my office mates as well as those who come to see me.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you are not comfortable with dogs or have any other questions or concerns.
