Why Don’t you take Insurance?
The answer here is quite long and I am glad to discuss this more when we meet together. But simply put, I was paneled with insurance companies for about 8 years.
After quite some time struggling with companies I made the difficult decision to to step away and when I did, I felt it was not just for my business, but because insurance companies increasingly did not reflect my valuse.
Insurance companies regularly create barriers to meaningful care. It is not uncommon for companies to require a mental health diagnosis just to approve treatment. Companies try and often succeed on limiting how long therapy can last. They sometimes ask for your personal clinical information in order to determine “medical necessity.” In my opinion, this place too much of the therapy process in the hands of an insurance company and not where it should be; within the relationship between therapist and patient.
Therapy should be a space that belongs to you—not a company.
In my private-pay practice, we decide how often to meet, what to focus on, and how to move forward, without interference. It’s confidential. It’s collaborative. And it’s yours.
Rates and Insurance
One of the most common questions I get in my practice is: Do you take insurance?
In short, no. I am what is considered an out of network provider of outpatient therapy services.
What does that mean for you if you would like to use your insurance?
I hire a third party company to process all out of network (OON) insurance claims at no cost to my patients. Any patient I see that would like to try utilize any OON benefits simply needs to let me know and I will get work with you and get the process started. For more information on how this works, please see this video: The basics of Thrizer.
To start you will need:
to have out of network benefits with your insurer. Most PPO plans have OON benefits, most HMOs do not.
to have met the OON deductible with your insurer.
My Rates
$200 for an Intake Appointment
$175 for a Standard Appointment
$185 for appointments with additional people.
