What is relational psychodynamic therapy?

Relational psychodynamic therapy refers to a type of long -term depth therapy. When hearing the word “depth”, people often have a quick association to Carl Jung. And you would be correct! Carol Jung was a pioneer in depth work.

Depth therapy is commonly distinguished between other therapy modalities in that attention is not only given to current problems and how to alleviate them, but also to where they started, how they came to be a major current stressor and more.

I do this by helping each individual explore the underlying patterns, emotions, and experiences that shape how they relate to themselves and others. We will explore dreams, desires, fantasies, stuck places and resistances. This approach attempts to beyond surface-level symptoms to understand the deeper roots of pain, often rooted in early relationships or unconscious beliefs.

Additionally, therapy becomes a collaborative and relational process—grounded in trust and curiosity—where your inner world can be explored with me in safety and honesty. We attend not only to these inner place, but also to your relational dynamics, past, current and future and how the past might be showing up in current patterns. we will attend to how these patterns might repeat themselves in our work.

All of these elements will tie together and gradually you will find yourself becoming more curious. About yourself and people and the world around you. You may find yourself more imaginative and creative in the work you devote your life to or find a passion you did not remember you had and decided to live into that passion. You may discover yourself more engaged and enlivened by the relationships that bring meaning and purpose to your life. Each person is different, but I believe that when we spend time deepening and feeling and understanding the most important relationship of our lives; the one with ourselves, that we cannot help but find ourselves changed and transformed.
